About the Participants
In the ten years that the event has been held, 475 different riders have participated. Riders have ranged in age from the mid-teens to the 70's, but the predominant participants have been riders of both sexes between the ages of 30 and 60.
This year's promotional efforts will target over 2000 riders in Oregon from Portland to the California boarder.
At Risk Youth
Umpqua Velo Club has used some of its proceeds from the Tour de Fronds event to establish a cycling program for at-risk students at Roseburg High School. Over a three year period the number of students participating in the program and the Tour de Fronds event increased four-fold. Roseburg now has more students interested in being involved than they have resources (bicycles) to accommodate. The Tour de Fronds has used the past proceeds of the event to purchase and donate bicycles, equipment and gear to these students and hopes to again this year.
